BLONDED
Who am I?
"Who am I? What a great question, well my real name is Mkiyah Gordon, I am 19 and I really love music. My persona 'Blonded' came from a piece of language I was reading one day about stereotypical beauty standards and they said our society was 'Blonded' and it stuck with me, I wanted my music to act against these standards and start portraying 'real life' as real. Being influenced by books, movies and artists is something that happens quite a lot, not only this but issues that are personal to me I will always portray in my work, things like the BLM movement and LGBTQ activists. Overall, to answer your question I am an artist who portrays society through music, I want to bring about change and make people stand up for what they believe in"
A message to my fans
First of all, I want to say a personal thankyou to everyone who listens and enjoys my music, without you guys I would not be pursuing my dream. I wanted to remind you all to follow your aspirations, I grew up in a quiet little seaside town, everyone told me I would never make it and now I'm making my childhood dreams come true. If I could give any of you a piece of advice it would be to never listen to anyone that doubts you. Realise what you want and go and get it.
What do my songs mean?
Nights
Channel
Novacane
"I wrote this song not long after leaving school, honestly I felt a bit lost in life and there was a single person holding me together but they left in the end, it took a while to get over it, and Nights was the end result, I wanted to dedicate this to anyone who's ever felt lonely and scared"
"I love Channel, it was such a fun one to write, but I feel no one really understands what I am trying to say, this came out around the time sexuality was a big factor I was trying to figure out, it's such a hard topic and no one really speaks about it so I feel Channel shows that path of figuring out who you are and what you want"
"Now this was a trip down memory lane, Novacane holds so much value to me, I was at my first festival and this song basically dictates how it went and how I felt, it was such a great experience and one of the happiest days of my life. I just had to write a song about it!"
